Wedding décor is where 3D printing quietly shines: everything can carry your names, your date and your exact colours, and you do not have to buy 200 of anything to get it. Here is what couples actually order, what turns out well and what you should plan for months, not days, in advance.

Cake toppers with your names on them

The cake topper is the single most photographed object at a wedding after the couple. A 3D printed topper is designed around your names, initials or a short phrase, in a font that matches your invitations, and printed as one flat or slightly raised piece with a pair of thin stakes to push into the cake.

Popular options:

• Script names joined by an ampersand, printed in white, gold-coloured or black filament
• Silhouettes of the couple, traced from a photo and simplified into a clean outline
• A tiny figurine pair, printed in resin and hand-painted to match outfits
• Themed toppers for fandom weddings: a pair of rings from Middle-earth, a games controller heart, two cats

Place cards, table numbers and seating signs

Printed stationery gets thrown away. A small 3D printed name holder gets taken home. The usual set for a wedding includes:

Two practical notes. Standard vases are not watertight on their own, so either use dried flowers or ask for a sealed inner liner. And if your palette is very specific, send a photo of the fabric or a paint code and the studio will match the closest filament.

Favours guests will not leave on the table

The best favours are small, personal and useful. Good candidates:

• Mini keychains with the couple's initials and the date
• Tiny succulent pots (guests plant them later)
• Bottle openers or wine glass markers shaped around the wedding theme
• A small cookie cutter in the shape of your monogram, given with a recipe card
• Ring dishes for the bridal party

For a fandom couple, favours can get delightfully specific: a miniature One Ring on a stand, a chibi version of your two pets, a tiny Warhammer aquila. If it can be modelled, it can be printed.

Timeline and how to order

Wedding orders have a hard deadline, so start early. A reasonable plan:

1. Eight to ten weeks out: send the studio your names, date, font reference, colours and a rough guest count.
2. Six weeks out: approve the design preview. Ask for a single sample of the place card holder or topper if you want to see it in person.
3. Four weeks out: full production and finishing.
4. Two weeks out: delivery, leaving a buffer for the courier.
