Nauryz Gift Ideas: Kazakh-Themed 3D Printed Décor

Nauryz is the holiday of new beginnings, guests and a table that never empties, and it comes with its own visual language: the shanyrak, the koshkar-muiz ram's horn curl, steppe tulips, the dombra. 3D printing is a surprisingly good match for that language, because ornament that takes a craftsman days to carve takes a printer hours to reproduce. Here are gift and décor ideas for 21 March that feel rooted rather than generic, and how to order them in time for the celebrations.

Why Kazakh ornament and 3D printing get along

Traditional Kazakh ornament is built from repeating curved elements: horns, waves, sprouts and crosses arranged in symmetric bands. Those same elements are easy to model as clean vector curves and extrude, wrap around a vase or emboss onto a flat panel. The result keeps the mathematical precision of the pattern while gaining depth and shadow that a printed textile or a sticker cannot give.

If you would like to see how the motifs translate onto modern objects, our post on Kazakh ornaments in 3D print goes through the main patterns and where each one works best.

Gift ideas for the home

Ornament vases. A tall spiral-printed vase with a koshkar-muiz band around the body, in terracotta, deep blue, white or marble filament. Fill it with steppe tulips or dried wheat for the Nauryz table. The Aria vase shape that Fantasy Lab 3D already prints adapts well to a wrapped ornament.

Shanyrak wall pieces. The crown of the yurt as a circular relief, from 15 cm to 50 cm across, in a single colour or painted. It hangs above a doorway or on a feature wall and is one of the most requested Nauryz gifts for a new home.

Lamps with patterned shades. A cylinder or sphere lampshade cut through with ornament so that the pattern is projected onto the wall in the evening. Warm LED inside, USB or mains powered.

Tulip décor. Stylised tulips as a bouquet that never wilts, a tulip-shaped tea light holder, a tulip ring dish.

Table pieces. Napkin rings with ornament, a raised tray for baursak, a stand for a kese bowl, place cards with guests' names in Kazakh.

Gifts for a person

  • Name plates and keychains in Kazakh Cyrillic or Latin script, with ornament borders. Useful for school bags, keys and office desks.
  • Dombra stands and wall hangers shaped to cradle the instrument, with a small ornament band.
  • Book nooks with a steppe scene: a yurt at sunset, a horse on a ridge, a tiny bazaar. A gift for a reader who is proud of where they come from.
  • Figurines: a horseman, a snow leopard, a golden eagle, printed in resin for fine detail or FDM for size.
  • Chess set with Kazakh motifs: pieces as batyrs, khans and yurts, a board with ornament borders. Fantasy Lab 3D has made themed chess sets before and a national theme is a natural extension.

Corporate Nauryz gifts

Many companies hand out gifts for Nauryz to staff and partners. Printing suits this because the same ornament plaque, keychain or desk piece can carry a logo and be produced in batches of twenty to a few hundred, packed individually. Popular formats include a small shanyrak on a stand with the company name, a set of ornament coasters, and a framed relief panel for partners' offices. Delivery across the country is straightforward; see 3D printing across Kazakhstan for how orders reach Astana, Shymkent and other cities.

Ordering in time for 21 March

Nauryz is a public holiday and courier services slow down around it, so plan backwards from the date. Small items such as keychains, coasters and name plates need a few days. Vases, lamps and wall pieces need about a week including finishing. Painted panels and book nooks can take two weeks or more. Corporate batches should be discussed in February. Price depends on size, material and finish, so send your idea early and ask for a quote.
