3D Printed Trophies and Awards for Tournaments and Corporate Events

A catalogue trophy is a golden figure on a plastic column with a sticker on the front. A 3D printed trophy is whatever your event actually is: a controller for an esports final, a stylised mountain for a hiking club, your company logo rendered as a sculpture. Here is what is possible, how the pieces are made and finished, and how far ahead you should order.

Why event organisers switch to 3D printed awards

• The design is yours. Any shape that can be modelled can be printed, so the trophy reflects the event rather than a generic sport.
• Any quantity works. One grand prize or forty participation awards, with no tooling and no minimums.
• Text is built in. Winner names, dates, categories and placements are part of the model, not a plate glued on afterwards.
• Repeatable year after year. Once the file exists, next year's edition is a reprint with new names. A series of matching trophies builds tradition.
• Sensible cost at small numbers. With no mould or metal casting, a small batch of unique awards is far more achievable than with traditional suppliers.

Trophy styles that work well

Sculptural trophies. A figure, an object or a mascot on a base. Esports events often go for a controller, a headset or a character from the game; sports clubs use a ball, a bike or a boot. Geometric and abstract awards. Faceted crystals, twisted columns, low-poly shapes and parametric lattices look modern and print cleanly. They suit corporate awards, hackathons and design competitions.

Logo trophies. Your logo extruded into a thick solid form and mounted on a plinth. Simple to design, immediately recognisable.

Plaques and shields. Flat or slightly relieved panels with raised text, good for wall-mounted recognitions and long-service awards.

Medals. Small, quick to print in batches, easy to personalise with a category and a place. Pair them with a ribbon.

Sizes typically range from 15 cm for participation awards to 30 cm or more for a grand prize. Larger pieces are printed in sections and assembled with hidden joints; details are in assembling multi-part prints. Engraving and personalisation

Text can be raised or recessed. Raised text reads better at a distance and is easier to paint; recessed text is protected from wear. Keep letters at least 5 mm tall on FDM prints for legibility. Names of winners are usually printed in a separate small plate that slots into the base, so the main trophy can be produced before the event and the plates printed on the final day once results are known.

Timeline: when to order

A good rule is to start the conversation three to four weeks before the event.

1. Week 1: brief, references, concept sketch or render, approval.
2. Week 2: modelling, test print of one unit, adjustments.
3. Week 3: batch printing, assembly, finishing.
4. Final days: name plates, packing, delivery.

Simpler pieces in a single colour can be faster; painted sculptural trophies need the full window because paint and clear coat take time to cure properly.
