20 3D Printed Home Décor Ideas for a Modern Apartment

A modern apartment lives on a few well-chosen objects rather than a lot of clutter, and 3D printing is unusually good at producing exactly those: sculptural shapes that would be impossible to mould, in the precise size and colour your room needs. Here are twenty ideas Fantasy Lab 3D can print, grouped by room, with notes on what each one is made of.

Living room

1. A spiral vase. Printed in a single continuous line of plastic, so it has no seams and catches light like ribbed glass. The Aria vase in our portfolio is the classic example. Why the technique looks so good is explained in our vase mode article.
2. A lithophane moon lamp. A sphere with the lunar surface encoded in its wall thickness; switched off it is a white ball, switched on it glows like the real thing. See how a moon lamp works.
3. A parametric wall panel. A set of tiles with a flowing relief pattern, mounted as a feature behind a sofa or a TV. 3D printed wall art shows the options.
4. A geometric lampshade. Voronoi, honeycomb or low-poly shells that throw patterned shadows across the ceiling in the evening.
5. A book nook. A tiny lit alleyway or library hidden between two books on the shelf. Ours range from Bag End to a Warhammer 40K cathedral, and they are the single most commented-on object in any room.
6. Sculptural bookends. A low-poly bust, a pair of hands or a mountain range that holds the shelf together.

Most décor lives indoors at room temperature, so PLA is the default and the colour choice matters more than the plastic. If an object will sit in direct sun on a windowsill, ask for PETG.

Making a room read as one set

The difference between a flat full of printed objects and a flat that looks designed is repetition. Pick one or two colours, say matte black and marble, and one shape language, either soft ribbed or crisp geometric, and stick with it across the vases, the planters and the lamp.
