3D Printed Gifts for Cat Owners: Feeders, Toys and Cat-Shaped Everything

Cat people are easy to spot and surprisingly hard to shop for: they already own three scratching posts and a drawer of novelty socks. 3D printing opens a different category of gifts, from a feeder sized for their particular cat to a figurine of the meme cat they keep sending you. Here is a practical list, split into gifts for the cat and gifts for the human.

Gifts for the cat

Cats do not care about wrapping paper, but they do notice a new bowl or a toy that rattles differently.

Slow feeders and treat puzzles

A slow feeder is a bowl with ridges or a maze inside, so the cat eats in small mouthfuls instead of inhaling dinner and bringing it back up. Printed versions can be tuned to the cat: wider channels for a flat-faced Persian, tighter for a greedy tabby. Treat puzzles are boxes with sliding lids or paw-sized holes that make the cat work for a snack.

A note on materials: standard PLA is not the best choice for a surface that touches food every day, because layer lines can trap bacteria and PLA softens in a hot dishwasher. For feeders, Fantasy Lab 3D recommends PETG printed with thick walls and a smooth finish, or a printed stand that holds a ceramic or steel bowl. We explain the details in Is PLA food safe?.

Toys

Rolling balls with a bell cavity, spring toys, fish-shaped rattles and wand attachments. Toys should be printed solid or nearly solid, with no small parts that can break off. Flexible TPU works well for anything a cat will chew.

Everyday hardware

Bowl stands raised to a comfortable height, wall-mounted brackets for a cat hammock, litter scoop holders and a clip that keeps the food bag closed. Not glamorous, but used daily.

Gifts for the human

This is where 3D printing gets fun, because almost anything can be made cat-shaped.

Meme cat figurines

The crying cat, the "huh?" cat, the cat with the tiny hat: printed meme figurines are among the most requested desk pieces at Fantasy Lab 3D, and there is a whole post about them in Meme figurines. A figurine of their actual cat

Send a few photos from different angles and the cat can be modelled and printed as a small statue, in resin for fine fur detail or in FDM for a stylised low-poly look. Add a name on the base.

Lithophane lamp with the cat's photo

A lithophane is a thin white panel where thickness controls brightness. In daylight it looks blank; with a light behind it, the cat's photo appears. Flat panels, curved night lights and moon-shaped lamps are all possible.

Cat-shaped home objects

Planters with ears, a phone stand where the phone leans on a cat's back, bookends of a stretching cat, a keychain in the silhouette of their cat's breed, a ring dish shaped like a curled-up cat.

Practical points before ordering

• Safety for the cat. No loose beads, no thin spikes, no glow-in-the-dark or glitter filament on toys. Rounded edges everywhere.
• Size matters. Tell us the cat's weight or breed for feeders and toys; a Maine Coon and a kitten need very different bowls.
• Cleaning. Feeders and toys should be washable by hand in warm water. Avoid dishwashers for any printed plastic.
• Timing. A figurine or lamp modelled from photos takes longer than a stock design, so order a couple of weeks before the birthday.
