3D Printed Bathroom Organisers: Toothbrush Holders to Shower Shelves

Bathrooms are small, wet and full of things that need a home: toothbrushes, razors, bottles, hairdryers, the kid's bath toys. Store-bought organisers rarely match the tile, the corner or the gap next to the sink. 3D printing lets you make one that does. Here is what we print for bathrooms, what it should be printed from, and how it holds up to water and steam.

What people order most

• Toothbrush holders with a slot per brush, a drip tray and a spot for the electric brush charger.
• Razor hooks and blade holders for the shower wall, with a drainage slope.
• Shower caddies and corner shelves cut to the angle of your corner, with drain holes so nothing sits in water.
• Soap dishes with raised ribs that keep the bar dry.

Water, steam and plastics

This is the important part. The standard printing plastic, PLA, is fine on a dry shelf but not ideal in a shower: it absorbs a little moisture, softens in hot steam and can grow brittle. For anything that gets wet, we recommend PETG or ASA.

A printed part is made of many fused layers, and a lot of thin walls can wick water through tiny gaps. For trays and caddies we print thicker walls and more perimeters, and we can seal the surface. The same principle applies to vases, as covered in can 3D printed vases hold water?.

Mounting without drilling tiles

Nobody wants to drill a tile. Most of our bathroom items are designed for one of these:

• Adhesive pads (3M Command strips or VHB tape) on a flat printed back.
• Suction cup mounts, where the printed part has a socket for a standard suction cup.
• Over-door or over-glass hooks for shower screens and cabinet doors.
• Tension rod clips for a shower rod.
• Screw mounting where drilling is fine, with countersunk holes.

Colours and looks

Bathroom prints do not have to be white plastic. Matte white, black and grey blend with most tiles; marble filament looks like stone and hides water spots; pastel tones suit a kids' bathroom. A smooth, sanded finish is easier to keep clean than raw layer lines, so for anything that touches soap scum we recommend a finished surface. Names or icons on each toothbrush slot are a small touch families like.

Hygiene and cleaning

Printed organisers are cleaned like any plastic: warm water, mild detergent, an old toothbrush for the corners. Avoid boiling water, dishwashers and bleach on PLA. PETG tolerates hotter water.
